Jaana Mattsson is a self-taught visual artist who lives and works in her leisure apartment in Kemiönsaari and at home in Katajanokka, Helsinki. Mattsson's paintings are like fairy tales for adults. They combine different interior styles, possible and impossible. Each painting is a journey to a new place, and the reward is to see where it has arrived. The main thing is that it is wonderful there.

The View From My Window series began in the corona spring of 2020, when Korona isolated her and her family on the former village school on Kemiönsaari. The distant longing created by the isolation triggered a desire to paint window views of places he would have liked to travel to.

The paintings in the La Vie De Chateau series are like fairy tales for adults. They combine different interior styles, past and present.

My Africa series is a variation on Mattsson’s favorite theme of longing. As in the View From My Window series, in the My Africa series, Mattsson goes to places she couldn’t go during the Corona.

Mattsson's works on flowers and water are dreamlike landscapes. Mattsson deals with floral and water issues in the series “Life Aquatic”, “Herbarium” and “Piano / Forte”.

Artist’s Statement

“I want to bring out beauty, harmony and a good atmosphere in my work. I want my paintings to be fairy-tale. I am interested in the interior and the old houses that abound in my paintings. In my work, I like to play with colors and interior styles. I like to paint antique furniture, crystal chandeliers and old buildings whose design language pleases me. I don't plan my works much in advance, but their shape, story and color scheme take shape as the work progresses. ”
